Goodness, seems like they are going to show the whole movie with every trailer.....I don't know how I'll hold out until February without spoiling the whole film for myself, but man, Either way I'm going to end up crying in the movie theater. Maybe that's what will end up happening is Hiccup realizes they cannot defeat Grimmel or at least what he represent. There will always be evil humans who want to exploit and harm dragons and that is why they have to escape and stay in the Hidden World permanently. Even if Grimmel is killed if not severely injured at least, there will be others who will continue his legacy and Hiccup or the others don't want to ever risk the livelihood of their companions. Even if Toothless could visit Hiccup, he could get in harms way or even spoil the location of the Hidden World. 

Besides without the rest of the dragons, he would just get lonely and they need him to be Alpha there. That's going to be my guess why the dragons have to disappear and remain in hiding indefinitely. Another theory is Hiccup and the others decide to seal the Hidden World to ensure it can never be found too or one day when Hiccup tries to visit his buddy he finds nothing but deep ocean where the entrance should be. 

Ohhhhh, I can't guys!!!! Seeing Toothless getting shot by Grimmel just broke my heart. Also that scene where he's actually hugging Hiccup. Oh my god. I think we were all hoping Toothless would show his gratitude some way somehow especially after being among humans for so long and observing their behaviors. Just so sweet. Why do we have to wait another 2 months?
